Endodontic Dentistry is the study of teeth that involve the center (pulp) to the root of a tooth. It focuses on cause of tooth decay, diagnosis and treatment of infected tooth. Treatment can include extraction of the tooth, removal and replacement of the pulp and even removal of the nerve by tooth.
A root canal is a procedure to replace infected pulp in a tooth’s root with an inert material. Watch the short clip below for more information about root canals.
Apicoectomy is a minor surgical procedure in which the very tip of the tooth’s root is removed (“apico” – apex or end; “ectomy” – removal) and sealed. Watch the short clip below for more information about getting an apicoectomy.
Internal Bleaching is the procedure used by dentists to whiten teeth which have been under an endodontic treatment or a root canal treatment.
Occasionally a tooth that has undergone endodontic treatment fails to heal or pain continues despite therapy. Although rare, sometimes a tooth initially responds to root canal therapy but becomes painful or diseased months or years later. When either of these situations occur, the tooth often can be maintained with a second endodontic treatment. Watch the short clip below to learn more about root canal retreatment.
